Co-Founder: The Street Store
"WHEN I GROW UP I WANT TO CHANGE THE WORLD"
The Street Store is the world's first rent-free, premises-free, free pop-up clothing store for the homeless, found entirely on the street and stocked by donations. Hear how this little idea from Cape Town suddenly went global reaching 119 cities in only 1 year.
“I was born and raised in Durban, then moved to study at UCT after school. Once I completed my BA in Linguistics, Media, Writing and Film, I went to the Red & Yellow School of Advertising to study Copywriting. Straight out of ad school, I found my dream job at M&C Saatchi Abel Cape Town in January 2012. In an effort to help the homeless in our community, my work partner, Max Pazak, and I founded The Street Store in January 2014 along with M&C Saatchi Abel. It has since gone global and Street Stores have begun popping up around the world.”
Why do you want to be part of UCT Upstarts? “UCT was a big part of my life and has helped shape the person I am today. If I can give back to current students, I feel I have come full-circle and made the most of my education.”
HOW DO YOU ‘IMAGINE A NEW AFRICA’? “A new Africa would be a place where humans strive to work in harmony with each other and their natural surroundings. Africa remains a place of great opportunity. To encourage social entrepreneurship can only bode well for her future.”
