CEO: Stoogle Student Enterprises & President: Agora Technologies
"Who said you have to wait to finish varsity to become an entrepreneur? The birth of Stoogle and a world beyond campus."
"Startup' may be the buzzword, but no one wants a start-up. You want a BUSINESS... Developing a business like Stoogle.co.za and Agora takes time and effort, but there are lessons to be learned that you can't learn in a lecture - practical, real life lessons. We're here to teach exactly that - the painfully practical lessons you need to take an idea and turn it into a business. "
“After 12 schools and 16 houses around the world, I am glad to finally be in South Africa starting start-ups. I currently run Stoogle.co.za, a one-of-a-kind tech response to education information deficiencies. I also run Agora, a group of companies including Venture Capital, Investment Banking and Software Development subsidiaries. ”
Why do you want to be part of UCT Upstarts? ““Great initiative, much-needed. The world of jobs is dying fast, and entrepreneurship is the be-all and end-all... From my limited interaction to date, my assertion is that there are practicality adjustments that can be made at UCT Upstarts to offer a far better way to prepare students to start businesses. I would like to be a part of this to assist in the addition of the 'painfully practical' element I know we can bring... Hard skills, actual contracts, and getting rid of the 'idea sickness' to move towards actually starting something of value.”
HOW DO YOU ‘IMAGINE A NEW AFRICA’? “Africa is not short of creative ambition. Nor of people willing to put in the hard yards. With the right platforms - marketplaces for collaboration, transaction - we can build a community of self-servicing business people... The fabric of change is conversation. Structured, productive interaction. The result is a digital Africa, engaging in bits to build with atoms. ”
